Dr. Ediger has been an active member of the Maryland Shorthorn Association serving on their Board for a number of years. Additionally Dr. Ediger has also been a long time member of the Pennsylvania Shorthorn Breeders Association. In 2006 he served as the chairperson for the contest committee for the Junior Nationals meeting hosted by the Pennsylvania Shorthorn Breeders Association in Harrisburg, PA. Dr. Ediger states "this was an outstanding highlight in working with youth and the Pennsylvania Shorthorn membership". Dr. Ediger is the current President of the Pennsylvania Breeders Association.

The Green Spring herd was started in 1968 and presently consists of eighty purebred cows. Over the years, many A.I. sires have been used as well as several outstanding sires developed from within the herd. At all times, the emphasis has been on the development of performance and functional cattle. Recently a performance sire was purchased from Oregon, Wolf Ridge Samson POC 35. Those calves are now on the ground and are outstanding. The management consists of a rotational grazing program, turning grass into meat efficiently. Rate of gain has been crucial in the selection of replacements. The result of the years of genetic selections has been the development of a uniform herd, deep-bodied cows that are reproductively efficient with good udders, feet and legs. Cattle from Dr. Edigers' herd have done well for many buyers. He has always been especially pleased that buyers return to purchase additional animals time after time. Many of the steer and heifer calves are sold to 4-hers for their projects. He has been consistent in pricing the animals sold to 4-Hers at a price that he knows they can afford and always very high quality animals. Many 4-H champions and reserve champions, as well as rate of gain and champion carcasses have come from the Ediger Green Spring Herd.
